How To Turn On Vertical Radiator

Fitting

A vertical radiator can be a highly efficient and aesthetically pleasing heating solution for your home. However, if you're unfamiliar with its operation, you may wonder how to turn it on. In this article, we will provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to turn on a vertical radiator, ensuring a warm and cozy atmosphere in your living space.

  1. Familiarize Yourself with the Radiator. Before proceeding, take a moment to examine your vertical radiator and locate the various components. Typically, a vertical radiator consists of a temperature control knob or valve, pipes, and a bleed valve. Understanding the radiator's layout will make it easier to follow the steps involved in turning it on.

  2. Check the Boiler : Ensure that your central heating boiler is functioning correctly. If you have a combi boiler, make sure it is switched on and set to provide heat to the radiators. If you have a separate boiler for heating, ensure it is running and the thermostat is set to an appropriate temperature.

  3. Open the Radiator Valve: Locate the temperature control knob or valve on your vertical radiator. This valve is typically situated at the bottom or the side of the radiator. Turn the valve in a clockwise direction to open it fully. This will allow hot water to flow into the radiator.

  4. Bleed the Radiator : If you haven't used the vertical radiator for a while, there may be trapped air inside, which can prevent proper heating. To release any trapped air, locate the bleed valve at the top of the radiator. Insert a bleed key or a small flat screwdriver into the bleed valve and slowly turn it anticlockwise. You will hear a hissing sound as the air escapes. Once water starts to drip out, tighten the bleed valve.

  5. Test the Radiator: Now that you have opened the radiator valve and bled any trapped air, it's time to test the heating. Turn up the thermostat on your boiler to a higher temperature. Within a few minutes, you should start feeling heat emanating from the vertical radiator. If the radiator fails to heat up, check the boiler settings and ensure the water pressure is adequate.

With this step-by-step guide, you can easily turn on a vertical radiator and enjoy the warmth it provides in your home. Remember to familiarize yourself with the radiator components, ensure the boiler is functioning correctly, open the radiator valve, and bleed the radiator if necessary. By following these simple steps, you can optimize the efficiency of your vertical radiator and create a comfortable living environment during the colder months. Stay warm and cozy!
